Trip Overview
The Rutgers Geology Museum is a free museum dedicated to educating the public through its exhibits, collections, public lectures, tours and other programs. They offer a wide range of experiences to enhance visitors' understanding of the natural world. On this visit to the museum, our students will receive the free guided tour, a hands-on craft, and a gift bag to take home.
About the Day
Students will participate in 40 minute free guided tour for K-12 which will include a presentation on dinosaurs, geology, the Ice Age, and mummies. Following the tour, students will engage in a hands-on educational activity - constructing a 3D Egyptian pyramid.
At the end of the program, students will receive a gift bag to take home.
Younger Group
(6 years and under)
Dino Story Time Tour
IF there are enough younger children, a special tour for their age group may be scheduled. The guide will read a dinosaur-themed story book to the group as well as provide each participant with a scavenger hunt.
Additonal Information
- A minimum of 10 students are required for the guided tour. If less than 10 students register, we will proceed with a self-guided tour and scavenger hunt. You will receive a refund for $2.
- Tour is approximately 45 minutes, however we will be at the museum for approximately 2 - 2.5 hours with the craft, scavenger hung, and visit to the gift shop.
- The gift shop has a wide variety of natural history related items. Prices range $1.00 - $20.00 and accepts credit cards, cash, or checks made out to Rutgers Geology Museum.
- The Museum is located on the historic Old Queens Campus in the Rutgers Geology Museum, Geology Hall, 2nd floor.
- The entrance to the museum is located on the corner of Somerset Street and George Street through the black iron gates.
- Park at any of the parking meters on George Street, Hamilton Street, Somerset Street, or College Avenue. You may also choose any of the garages or non-Rutgers lots labeled "P" in the area.
- The building is historic and NOT handicap accessible. All participants must walk up two flights of steps to enter the museum.
