Trip Overview
The Environmental Education Center (EEC) at Lord Stirling Park is nestled within 500 acres of the western portion of the Great Swamp. It offers approximately 9 miles of hiking trails, programs led by naturalists, exhibits, a resource library, field trips, and more. We will focus on the hiking trails for this trip. The EEC is dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of the natural world around us in order to facilitate responsibility and care in preserving natural areas. This was once the home of Paleo-Indians, the Lenni-Lenape, and a Major General of the Continental Army, named Lord Stirling. In the 1960's residents rallied to protect these wetlands from becoming an airport. The Great Swamp is 2,600 acres.
